Nahum, a reserve doctor, finds himself in an isolated outpost at the edge of the Suez Canal, where the war catches him completely by surprise. While Commander Shlomo and his fighters repel enemy attacks, Nahum struggles to save the lives of the many wounded in the field hospital.

The Armored Corps troops desperately try to defend the besieged outpost from the Egyptian tank assault. Meanwhile, back home, the doctor's wife is anxious about his fate and tries to locate him. After the soldiers realize what has happened to Bar-Lev, they prepare for a final battle.

The fighters at the pier deliberately surrender according to the plan proposed by the doctor and are transferred to a prison in Cairo, where they undergo harsh treatment. Company commander Shlomo concludes his testimony before the Agranat Commission, and Dr. Nahum emerges shaken from his interrogation by the Military Police Criminal Investigation Division.
